We’re calling for an agreement between Unscripted freelancers and the Broadcasters/Production Companies.
FAIR PAY, FAIR HOuRS, FAIR CONDITIONS
By speaking with one voice, we believe we can drive powerful change.
By speaking with one voice, we believe we can drive powerful change.
Our number one question from freelancers is “what should I be paid?”. We are also aware that what we are paid is very personal, and can be contentious in the freelance industry we operate in.
Additionally, there are historic issues that need addressing urgently. Firstly, those with protected characteristics often don’t achieve the same rates as their peers, which is discrimination. Secondly, those in production management roles (traditionally seen as female jobs) aren’t paid the same as their colleagues in editorial jobs.
Bearing in mind the above, we have put together a Rate Negotiation Guide. It will be most useful for people stepping up the ladder, and working out what you should be paid on Day 1 of a promotion. We know it won’t be a perfect fit for all roles across all the Unscripted Genres, but it is a starting point to ensure you can negotiate with confidence and achieve a fair minimum rate.
